Old Dog...New Tricks!

1 post in this topic

Whoever decided old dogs can't learn new tricks was wrong. This old dog is still learning.

Loading my Pungo on the roof of my Plymouth Voyager isn't bad, but because it is 16 ft long and 30 pounds heavier, the Pamlico Excel is a little tougher so this old dog came up with a new trick. I made myself a rail out of a 2x4 and 2 pieces of strapping, leaned it against the back of the van so the top end is almost against the rear roller of the Thule rack system. I lift the bow of the yack waist high onto the rail then grab the stern and shove...shoving is easy. It slides very nicely right onto the roof and nestles onto the rack saddles perfectly.

Just for fun I loaded the Pungo with one hand, but I have to use 2 for the Pamlico.

Next step I ordered a 2 wheel cart so I wont even have to drag the yak. I will strap the wheels on in the right spot so I can transport the boat with it still attached and ready to unload. Unloading is even easier, gravity is on my side. Cliff Blair
