A drift too far?

1 post in this topic

I've been fluking off my yak lately out of pt lookout. I've been staying in the back inside reynold's channel so far. the last couple times out, i'd planned to drift toward long beach with the incoming and then back out on the tide turn, but unfortunately the wind kept me from drifting in with the current. I'm thinking of trying to put in by the jones beach piers next time and drifting east with the incoming (to avoid the head wind), and then back again on the tide turn.

My question is: at what point does the state boat channel become influenced by fire island inlet? I don't want to drift so far that when the tide switches I start going that way...especically if the wind is pushing me with the incoming.

any ideas?
