Where to mount Rod holers

4 posts in this topic

I have an Old Town 138 enclosed Kayak, I would like to Know what kind of rod holders are best for trolling for stripers, and blues? I sit as far back as I can in my boat and if I am to mount a rod holder up front I would have to shimmy to the front to grab the rod!

I would think that flush mounts right behind you wuld be the way to go. Barrell made a statement at one tie which I adhere to. Set everything up so you never have to leave your seat to reach it. You can get the holders made in plastic for app. $5.00 each. West Marine has them.

And rember to seal the bottom of the flush mount rod holder. Barrel uses ethafome (packing material) and I think Aquaseal. Also rembeber to leave some space between the bottom of the holder and the inside of the yak so that it dosen't hit or rub when the yack flexes.
