fishnmagician
That is the question you gun enthusiasts are going to be asked, and you'd better come up with a good answer..... It's the question my wife asks every time the weapon is flashed on the news. Every time that weapon and the destruction it caused in aiding in the massacre of all those little kids. she doesn't like guns, But she understands why people have them. She understands handguns or shotguns for home defense, she understands rifles for hunting. But she repeatedly asks why anyone would NEED to own a gun like that. and as they shooting seem to increase in frequency and body count, the gun nuts better come up with better answers than to talk about black people and abortions. and the "Protect ourselves from the Government" people better be prepared if it turns out this kids mom was one of you. Little
Hunting, sport, self defense. Those are the three "acceptable reasons" that a police chief in New Hampshire looks for on a concealed carry permit. No voodoo there. “My happiness is not the means to any end. It is the end. It is its own goal. It is its own purpose.” Ayn Rand

MikeM58
A lot of guys like them, because they are familiar with them from military training. i don't suppose anyone "needs" one, it's a preference from what's available.

I don't know anyone who buys a weapon based on it's potential "body count". I know normal people.

lichum
That is the question you gun enthusiasts are going to be asked, and you'd better come up with a good answer..... Those who oppose all firearms ownership, or ownership of semiautomatic firearms, often say that guns like the one pictured have only one purpose which is to "kill people." Yet every day in America, many thousands of firearms like the one pictured are used for a variety of lawful purposes. Q: "Why does anyone need to own that?" A: That widespread variety of lawful use of those firearms answers the question. "Who is John Galt?" Who? You?
MikeM58
ok, what is the purpose of that weapon beyond a high body count, you said people from the military were familiar with it? why do they use them in the military? They are reliable, they are what's provided, and they fire a standard 5.56mm NATO round (meaning you can use ammo from allied countries in them). If high body count was the only reason, everyone would be issued an M60 machine gun. You can kill 6 people with a revolver, is that a "high" body count? Once again, I don't think anyone "needs" one in the sense that a carpenter "needs" a hammer. It's a preference. Why do people that never go off road "need" 4X4 SUV's? Why does anyone need a car that goes faster than the speed limit? The answer is they don't "need" them, they want them and they are available. For the record, I don't own one, because I don't want one.

RoboSeagull
The reason to own a military rifle a AR, AK,etc etc is because and I'm quoting my father and his friends "it's a cool gun to own and shoot." I don't disagree with it and it provides money to places like gun ranges, sporting goods stores and whatever

Mokes
please stay on topic. Your wife understands handguns for home defense but not AR-15's shows that she understands nothing. It is the only place in the world where they feel like winners, the gracious thing to do, would be to let them enjoy their delusional reality." -Numbnuts
