I was wondering the same. Not really sure what the problem is with knives and bibles and no idea what a clinger is. Must be a Cooterville expression.

Decided to make my own furniture hen i moved. Keeps me busy. Stuff is solid and wont break like some of the crap I've seen and statistically speaking, people in my industry or my union only collect six pension checks on average. Figure I'll keep working around the house and maybe trick my body.

Looked online in magazines and showrooms for ideas. Not exactly sure what I like, definitely know what I don't . Couple of pieces got my attention and every time I looked for more ideas I was drawn to them. I don't like dark furniture and don't care much for black lacquer, but this set kept jumping out at me so I gave it a shot. Liked the contrast of the natural wood and lacquer, but what a pain in the ass considering I don't know lacquer and was not equipped for it.

This was the set I liked along with a dresser

It went together

Drawers before and after staining. I really like the white oak rift grain pattern.

Done. Probably get to the headboard in the fall. I need to mull for awhile. I used accuride touch to open drawer slides. Would have taken me more time to make a template for the recessed drawer pulls that the designer used and I really didn't want to break up the grain. The black is a pain so I may not make a dresser.

Nice work. What do you do that the average is only 6 pension checks? I know a lot of dudes in my work that retire and kick it too.

I still have my old man's belt driven Craftsman table saw that be bought new in 1952. That thing is a tank and it cuts better than a newer saw that I bought.

Man, you're old.

Went for a light color for my bedroom. Couldn't match it, some screwball color. Almost went with the natural white oak color without stain but my sister in law and my cousin both picked the pickled oak sample I had stained so I stopped mulling and went with that.

Done. Went with the veneered top. But they are screw on so if they are damaged or I change my mind I can change out the tops. Drawer faces were a nightmare. MDF measured less that three quarters and I framed it out with oak hoping to prevent dings.Fixed it with edge banding, two layers, but it's sad when you have to measure manufactured wood. Live and learn.

Still working on dresser drawers. Headboard to follow.

Carpenters union. NYC. I installed office furniture. I know a few guys who retired and they're miserable pricks who deserve to die.

I always enjoyed making stuff, so it wasn't just a job. Now i can do it for fun.

Ended up with these scraps when I mitered the legs, maybe three inches in depth. Made some interesting designs. Going to play around with some light and dark boards cut some different angles out and glue them up. Slice off 1/4 or 1/2 inch thick pieces and use the designs on the headboards or  coffee and end tables
