Wow Loons, just WOW

Do you use a tripod generally, or mostly free hand?

Thanks. All free hand except where I can I will brace the camera on something.

I was rooting for the owl. Outstanding work there.

Red tail hawk, sharp shin hawk, dark morph rough leg hawk, short ear owls. Saw harrier hawks as well as a gray ghost but iso was way too high. As it is the owl pics are as high as 4000, the ghost was over 11,000 and pretty much garbage but at least I got to see him. They didn't start flying much till after sundown.

Took a ride up to the Forsyth Wildlife Refuge outside Atlantic City today. Cloudy and windy but it sure beat work.

Keep seeing these smaller hawks zipping in between the oak trees along the trail. Other than American Kestrels, I have not been able to photograph any of them. I finally got a few photos at dusk, hopefully, with enough detail to identify them. Is this a Pacific Merlin or something else?

Don't have my ID book handy but it sure looks like a merlin to me.
