Greetings from Baja to all the SOL crowd...

It's fairly early into the spring fishing season but the bite is steadily picking up here in Baja Sur. The water is still a bit cold and the overall numbers of roosterfish are not high just yet. However, if you're in the right place at the right time there are trophy class specimens to be found. Getting them to bite is another story. Hunting trophy roosters from the beach takes patience and effort. But the rewards are well worth the time invested.

The fish in the photo below was taken while sight casting from the beach. It was a seriously tough fighter. Not sure of the duration. But I was damn lucky to land it. My line scrubbed the rocks during the fight. Luckily it was only the fly line that made contact with the rocks or it would have been game over. Luckily, the leader was untouched. The fish was landed and quickly released to fight again.

For a quick video of the final monents of the fight...
