Sea Bright gets $1.3M for flood prevention work

March 30, 2012, 11:25 a.m. EDT

SEA BRIGHT, N.J. (AP) — Flood-prone Sea Bright is getting more than $1.3 million in federal funds to help pay for flood prevention work.

Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. says the money comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

It will pay for a bulkhead repair project in the Monmouth County beach community which frequently floods during storms or high tides. It will also fund a submersible storm water pump.

Sea Bright also recently got $12.3 million from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a beach replenishment project.

The narrow community is bordered on the west side by the Shrewsbury River and on the east by the Atlantic Ocean.
