Some Questions on Jetty Rips

Rate this topic

1 post in this topic

Hey guys, I am very new to surf fishing and had a few questions on how to identify jetty (groin and inlet jetty) rips and also the backwash area.  I have been reading as much as possible on as many topics as possible, but have only read that they can be identified by rougher water, is this true?

I do not know for sure if this is true, but i believe that rips form at different stages of the tide, different moon phases and in different areas due to wind direction.  I also believe i have read that a rip is different from place to place and jetty to jetty and I do not want any specific time or place, but would just like to know how to identify a rip and its backwash (eddy?) and hopefully learn to fish a rip once I have an idea of what I am looking for.  If anything I have said is incorrect, any corrections are more then welcome as I am new and willing to learn from the numerous skillful anglers on this site.

Thank you very much for any responses.
