this past fall, i wanted to up grade my "up graded" (last year) dust collector, changing out the bag is a real chore... to add to that, once the bag reaches 2/3 full it clogs the canister fislter very quickly.. the solution a drop box... with the help ( basic idea) from a book on dust collection I devised and made ( mostly from scrap lumber) a pre sepperator drop box.. as the chips enter the chamber, the presure drop inside drops all but the finest dust into the collection bin.. a pair of chutes and a baffel placed inside keep the aim true..

the lower bin was fitted with a set of swivel castors, the liner is a 60 gallon trash bag... by lightly spraying the inside with adhesive, i can from the liner to the inside...

changing the liner is as easy as opening a pair of doors, wheeling the bin out into the open( or outside) nad removing the bag..it saves imensly on the amount of chips get into the filter bag and canister filter in my dust collector..

I also added a lathee enclosure.. nearly everything goes into the hood, except for all but the largest chips..http://www.stripersonline.com/image/id/3339567/width/600/height/450' alt='450'>

I addeda vacume drop at the lathcombined with a floor sweep, it makes clean up a snap..

The nice thing about it Ross, is it can be removed quickly if needed, both "flaps" are hinged, the top rests on the hood via a pair of re worked "L" brackets... the dupe also can be removed in seconds with out loosing the set up, because of a pair of collars on the mounting rods.... I can then turn by hand and once again set up the dupe in a matter of seconds.. alot of people set the dupe up that way...
