More commonly known as juvenile American eels, elvers are the next step after glass eel in the life cycle of the American eel. These small,3"to4" eels are known to hang out in most estuaries. Stripers are right fond of them and they are a great bait to immitate.

drift one of these over a striper lay in some small estuary and prepare for some fireworks ! I've had a good number of memorable evenings fishing these small flies.:)

hook; size #1 stainless

thread: black 6/0

tail/body: 3"to4" black rabbit strip

head: spun black deer hair

takes about three minutes to tie and is very effective.:D
