Appointing an individual to a Senior Level Management Position with no environmental background.

Effective March 26 Rich Boornazian will fill the critical role of Assistant Commissioner for Natural and Historic Resources overseeing Parks & Forestry, Fish & Wildlife, Engineering & Construction, Historic Preservation and the Green Acres Program. He will direct and be responsible for all policies and budgets within these divisions.

Rich has 30 years of diverse management experience in the fields of information technology, land acquisition, finance and private consulting. Before joining DEP two years ago, Rich was Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc., and since then has led the NJDEP land acquisition program under Green Acres. Rich's leadership will implement the Sustainable Funding Strategy for State Parks, DEP Goal #4.

I wonder if he hunts or fish???

clapping.gif  For Bob Martin!  He just got a promotion.  No more money (well perhaps more money, anything can happen), but less hands-on oversight responsibilities; and, a buffer.

feetinsand, says the new guy will be in a “Senior Level Management Position with no environmental background.”  Sounds like the man at the top:  Born and raised in Massachusetts, Commissioner Martin earned a bachelor of arts in Economics and Sociology from Boston College in 1979 and an MBA from The George Washington University in 1982.

The notable part is that he too will strive towards Bob Martin’s vision:

“The DEP will be led by a dynamic new leadership team which will create a more responsive agency in line with Commissioner Martin’s vision and mission (partly to include) … an Assistant Commissioner for Economic Growth and Green Energy, who will have two separate focus areas: green energy development and economic growth coordination.”  NJDEP News Release April 26, 2010

While this may not be the same Assistant Commissioner position being discussed here, in the same NJDEP News Relaease it was noted that,

“Richard Boornazian:  brings 28 years of diverse leadership experience in the fields of information technology, real estate, finance and private consulting. He is former Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc. and Vice President of Industry Relations for FIRETRAP Communications, Inc.”

The credentials, above, is what qualified him for Administrator, Green Acres Program.

Sounds like he left the job he was perfect for (acquiring Green Acres properties) for a job he's not at all qualified for :squid:

But he will push for laws that make no sense and have people follow something that they shouldn't be following, all the while taking his Marching orders from another Appointee, Czar if you will "Cass Sunstien" He is the top dog and in charge of Regulations be it land sea or air, good times... :beers::freak:

Rustyjigz, I believe you may have misspoken.

  • Cass Sunstien, Obama’s appointed Czar

  • Kim Guadagno, Christie’s elected running mate

At any rate, I understand your point.

At that level, the opinions of department staff, each who must be educated in order to qualify for his position, matter little compared to simply knowing what the boss wants.  The boss is not always right, but in this case the top boss is the Governor and he’s always boss, while he’s still in office.  shakehead.gif
