You know,I just thought about how easy it is to blow a grand taking up this sport. Buy one Vs or a Daiwa reel and you are more than half way there. Throw in a top of the line off the shelf rod and BINGO. Even though things are tight..pretty sure that I'll easily join the thousand dollar club this year..how about you?:)

easily...trick is to spread it out. I fool myself into thinking I bought a few little things here and there...but when you run the totals you'll quickly see them add up..Throw in a new blank or 2, or 3 and maybe a new VS....ans well you get the idea

The trick is to use only cash when you make local purchases, dont keep receipts, and use an old (wife unknown) credit card for online purchases. And once is a while use a standard credit card for some small purchases here and there.

More than $1K just for gas each year to run back and forth to MTK and other beaches. That's the only thing that goes on credit cards though, since the Mrs is fine with me going out fishing as much as I want...She 'knows' that my gas, incidental eels, leaders, etc is all I spend for fishing...since she 'knows' I have enough equipment for all my future generations...she 'knows' I don't ever buy anything else for fishing. ;)

Well, what she doesn't know is that's where my stash of cash comes in and is used throughout the year for show buys or to send out USPMOs via the SOL BST and have things shipped to my office.

Just since this past fall ended, I've spent almost $2K on stuff I really don't need, but wanted...and those items quietly find their way into my fishing cave. $500+ at the RI show...$300 at NJ Surf day...$200 at E Meadow flea market...hundreds+ more via SOL BST...a costly order in progress w/ Gary at GRS Bigwater...and I haven't even gotten to the Somerset show yet...

Ok, so I may not be normal, but thank goodness for my side consulting gigs to fuel my illness. :D

I gave up counting lol. I'm a Plug bag ***** . Ebbpoint , VS, custom rods, uhhg somebody stop me lol.. :D

I found its not the big items = rods reels custom bags cooler racks those we save or have special $ set aside. I find it's the little ones that add up! a few times last spring I awoke the next day after a fun night out and saw I went on a lttle " bst " spending spree! as well as I am a firm addict to when you walk into a bait/tackle shop "you buy something" some of you have seen my auto? " when do the meetings start" Hi my name is Robert!

Why is it that we become zombies upon entering a tackle store? In Vegas the casinos pump in oxygenated air so you'll have more pep and spend more money. The tackle store guys arrange their lures in a manner that says "Come on, be a man, it's only twenty bucks and you gotta have it!!" WE BECOME....THE PERFECT BUYING MACHINES!!! The plug slaves.:shock:
