Did you take the left side chrome spool adjusting cap off to see if there is any corrosion there? You will be able to see the bearing and end of the spool shaft. There is a thin spring bearing retainer towards the outside edge in that opening. If you take that out you probably will be able to tap out the bearing and spool with either an un-sharpened pencil or wooden dowel.

OK, the very first C3 they made. Wow, it was spendy back in the day. That said, you may want to destroy the ball bearing, as it's prolly cacked, anyway. They cost about 2.29 to replace. To destroy, take take your dremel tool, and chuck in a diamond burr. Stab the bearing between the races, where the balls live, and separate the ball bearing, by manipulating the burr.

You'll be able to remove the spool and the rusted inner race via the back door, and take the outer race out the front door. If you are not up for this, Jimmy the Zedster's post works too. But you will need to be careful, so as not to deform the bearing boss.

Wow, that's really stuck in there. The tapping should have freed it. I'm thinking Ken, that maybe there is a dent or something on the boss holding the bearing in.

CD does the whole bearing turn? Can you see this? Because if it does, than something else is holding it in.

no jimmy it's working like it should, i got the bearing to move some, it's now out off the boss, and up towards the end off the shaft. she's fighting me all the way. never got to the store last night to get the diamond d- burr bitt gonna go in a bit. even gently holding it with plyers and pulling ,it wont cooperate,
