LAKE WINNEBAGO, Wis. - An ice fishing tournament on Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin resulted in 36 vehicles falling through the ice, police said Sunday. A total of 50 cars were parked on the lake for the “Battle on Bago” contest, 18 were completely submerged, four of them were partially submerged and 14 were sunk to the top of their wheels, Sgt. Tim Eichman told FOX 9 News.

The ice was estimated at a foot thick, though sun and rising temperatures as the day progressed softened the top layer of the lake.

Most of the cars were parked over a shallow portion of the lake, and all were removed by tow truck. No passengers were in the vehicles as they sunk, and no one was injures, said police, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
