WTB Tapered Leaders.

6 posts in this topic

Striper......

I had a bunch of them - both freshwater and saltwater in fluro. Either sold them or gave them away to an SOL friend.

Only good if you are fishing small flys in calm wind. Too limp. In order to survive the "drawing-out" process of being tapered the material has to be soft. Therefore it produces a relatively limp leader and really not suitable for windy conditions or to turn over saltwater flys.

Better to taper your own or go with a straight shot of suitable weight tippet.

I taper my leaders - 4-5' heavy (60-80#) for heavy rods and lines (and TH rods). And 50-60# for lighter rods and lines. I taper it down from there in 1' intervals using blood knots.

Honestly, I'm not sure where im going to fish for Stripers in NYC (although there are a lot of Strippers... Not looking for those)... I'll probably just target LMB or maybe try to catch some stuff of the dock in Rhode Island with it.

So light leaders are fine.

Im fishing a 8/9 weight TFO Lefty Kreh rod and reel.

Just need about 5

I have straight leaders, but if thats all I need than let me know.
