8' boat rod cut down from a 9; blank ??????

I was down at the tarpon club the other night and they are using 8' rods to go after the Tarpon. I was wondering if I cut down a old 9' lamiglass if it would make a good rod.

I wouldn't necessarily 'go with the crowd'. If you can catch fish using your 9 footer; go for it.

 

On the other hand; I would look at the action of their rods. What is really different from yours; other than the length?

 

If you should decide to cut it off, consider which end that you're going to cut it. Cutting from the tip is easier, but does increase the stiffness of the rod. It also affects casting.

 

Think about the options before cutting. Maybe building a new rod? JMHO C2
