Trade Robert's 2¼ or 3 ounce Ranger for 2½ ounce Whistler

6 posts in this topic

I'm interested in trying out the Whistler model. I have 2¼ ounce Rangers in white/red and chartreuse, and a 3 ounce Ranger in orange. Would trade one for one.

Whistler? What are they?

You're a big boy, Carlos. Google it... ;) Kidding. Let me save you the trouble... Here's a description from the website:

"At Roberts, we had noticed that the Bounder, weighing 1 3/4 oz., seemed to cast as well as the heavier Rangers on the big surf outfits. Also, we've liked the slower retrieve speeds available with this lure when targeting stripers. This led to experimenting with weight designs that retain the slip/slide surface action desired, but enabled extreme distance casts. After eight months of trial and error, we ended up with the 21/2 oz. product. It is named Whistler because it launches so fast on a typical cast from an 11-foot surf rod that it creates an audible whistle. Consider the Whistler as a part of your lure selection for those times when the fish are on that offshore bar or otherwise beyond normal casting range. The Whistler is 4 1/4 inches long and uses a Mustad # 9175 7/0 hook. We'd love to hear from you on our new lure."

fyi, i have met both owners of roberts, bob who invented it, and peter who bought the company about 6 years ago. i also met the engineer who helped develop the whistler. he felt that except for extreme casting, the whistler was the best roberts made. sorry i have no extras
