Browning Silaflex Offshore Combo

6 posts in this topic

I'm wondering if you guys can tell me about this combo I have. value, etc??? It's a heavy duty set by Browning, awesome condition, part of the Silaflex package - not sure how old. I'd say at least 30, but don't really know. Could be a lot older or maybe a bit more recent (doubt it). Either way, it's a heavy baitcaster, suited for big bass, and a super sweet rod with a hardwood polished handle, and a screw in metal connection. I'm sure there are guys out there who know exactly what this is. Considering moving it; and I know what it cost at an antique show. I'll load up some picks -any help appreciated - thanks

Did a search also, as you mentioned a trolling a combo, I would think produced in early 1980's but would like to know reel name/manf and model because I think its a freshwater set up (very nice one) because Browning was known for freshwater gear and maybe why you are not getting a lot of help (post in SOL's Freshwater Forum also). Thanks - well I found this about the rod at least:

Vintage Browning Silaflex Trolling RodModel # 162930 made in USA6' 7 3/4"2 pc. Varmac Stamp Hood SeatBall Gimbal6 Aftco Rollers#10 TopThis Rod is in Brand New Condition (with Rod bag).

Apparently, It's a trolling rod - but it is very heavy duty. The description came from a swordfish site. The reel is also Browning Silaflex. I'll see if I can get the model.

Thanks

Nice find golden. I have a silaflex trout rod I purchased in 1980. Great little bendy rod. They are very collectable and Ive seen them in very limited displays. Good luck with yours.

Thanks - it looks like it would fit for stripers or salmon. It actually looks like it belongs on a King Salmon boat trolling just offshore of kodiak.
