I saw the series and it got me interested in the books. Book one is great. The books after are progressively less interesting. They were still decent reads though.

Dune was probably the book with the most sequels,

each progressively suckier that I ever tried to push thru.

I think I read all 300 sequels. lol

I watched season 1 last November, and since have read the first 3 books and am halfway thru the 4th. I think it's really interesting, but I might have overdid it a bit reading them back to back to back. My head is swimming with all the lineages and plotlines, etc, etc. Haven't been this nerdy since I used to read Tolkien riding the short bus to middle school.

When the HBO series came out after a lot of "teasers" and ballyhoo, I had a 3 month free subscription to some of those premium channels.  I did watch the first one, and perhaps part of the second.  Well, it was advertised as "adult" which usually means more nudity and not leaving much to the imagination regarding sex or violence.  Let me say that I have never seen such a display of female breasts of all different colors, shape, and size in one place, so I can see how it would appeal more to men than women.  It was too much for moi.

I might be interested in getting the books from the library, as I used to like the Dune Trilogy, Tolkien, and of course Harry Potter.  I must have read every book ever written concerning the Arthurian Legend..(including Prince Valiant).  We shall see if I agree with your evaluations.  wink.gif

do i read the book(s) first or watch season 1??

does book1 = season1 ?

Yes, book 1 = season 1. The series was very thorough...didn't leave too much out, like usually happens when books are adapted into 2 hour movies. A few parts are told a bit different, and HBO added some typical T and A, but otherwise it's a good adaptation.

I'd read the book first, but don't think it'll make a difference one way or another.

Spartacus(on cable) is probably out of your wheelhouse too.

The Tavern is a helpful place,

start a thread and you will no doubt get a list of fine establishments in your area.

a failed attempt at humor,

it's my specialty.

actually HBO seems to use those scenes more so in the first seasons of their series,

maybe they feel they need them to pull from basic cable watchers.

I agree that random 10 second segments of soft core porn is more distracting than anything else.

and will cause me to not watch if we have house guests.... (can't have midget porn on TV with the MIL in the room)

The series is pretty good,

and worth the watch.

based on the type of stuff you enjoy, I would imagine you would get a lot of enjoyment from the series,

it was one of the better done stuff in the genre.

Please ignore him, he has a mind full of smut.

And that's a lot of smut if you've ever seen a picture of him.
