Yet another cross wrap question!

Hi all. Love looking at all the fantastic cross wraps you all have done. Really inspires me. I'm having a problem with my wraps. I'm finding it hard to pack my wraps particularly where they cross over. Is it that I'm not using enough tension on my thread and/or should I be rolling my threads flat after each pass?

If anything I would think its too much tension. Loose wrapped threads pack easily.

It helps packing if there is an underwrap of thread vs the slick blank under the crossed threads. You can also shorten the spacing between the diamonds to elongate them perpendicular to the rod. That makes packing easier. If they are elongated along the rod axis , the packing is tougher.

It does help to pack as you go. Maybe not every thread but maybe every 4 to 6.

Where they cross over is a good place to push the thread to where you want them. If not too tight they should stay put. Now that last thread you put on the outside of a crosswrap that has no other thread over it , that one can tend to wonder. Make it a liitle less tense , pack it , roll it , cram it , squish it :) whatever you have to do to keep it in place. Some people use CP , let it dry till tacky then push in that last outside thread using the tacky to keep it in place.

There a lot of art to packing and ultimately you develop what works for you.
