Why is 1080p necessary, side to side on a 46" I can't tell the difference between 720p,1080i or the 1080p?, 3D Theres a few hundred dollar difference. If 1080p is only for Blu Ray, I don't need that, supposedly we will never receive an over the air signal equivalent to what Blu-ray is. Currently own 3 LCD's LG (2) and Samsung, we prefer the LG, seems brighter and more vibrant. I'm thinking 46" LED for the best price I can find, stuff like inputs and 3D mean nothing to me.

You're right, it'll be a long time before any TV content is broadcast in 1080p. You may see some PPV's here and there (Dish usually has one or two available). But other than that 1080p sources are basically limited to Bluray, gaming consoles, and computers. If you don't see yourself using any of those, by all means go for a deal on a 720p set.
