I like the old ones compared to the new ones, the new ones feel cheap to me, imo, :)

they do cast far? no doubt. Are they real durable no. Are they heavey yes. If you have another reel then your fine but I wouldn't want this for my primary reel. I like it, but i am looking for something lighter. I had it lock up on me so i sent it for repair it came back and the bail mechanism broke. Usually i am careful with my reels bu this fall I did things i shouldn't have done to catch fish.

I will add that i am not about to sell this reel because i got it for distance and that is what it's for. I am 100% sure i would have caught less fish with another reel.

I have my eye on the japanese shimanos you see the guys here talking about.

If you don't have something that can get distance i would keep it. Now if your catching small fish like i do 80% of the time it may be overkill. The one good thing is you can really winch fish in so if you got other guys fishing you don't have to worry about the fish running you all over. Shimano Power Aero Albrid CI4 is the reel i was looking at but it's a lot more expensive. I don't fault the emblem having troubles because my other two reels had the same issues. I took a part my penn twice in a month.

Thats how womens shop, they are sending stuff back before they even receive it.;)

Before making a plunge in the future, maybe a little time and effort into researching what you think you want or need before getting yourself into a situation like you are doing. No rush, its not even February, go somewhere that you can put your hands on it, post inquiries before buying, and at least give the product a fair evaluation before you decide you don't think its worthwhile. Most knee-jerk expenditures never work out, do your homework, everyone (buyer and seller) will be better off.;)

Bill, whether it is worth the money is entirely a personal decision, nobody can make it for you - you're talking about value, and value isn't black and white. For some people the Emblem has the attributes they're looking for and they value them more than $130 dollars, so its worth buying. For other people the reel doesn't do what they need it to do, doesn't have the qualities they're looking for, so they wouldn't trade $130 for one. I don't understand how you can ask us to tell you which of those groups you belong to.

I have one and i have to agree it gets pretty heavy after awhile, but compare to a spheros 8000 it doesnt even come close.... i have both reel and i take care of my stuff..

but after a couple of seasons the emblem doesnt feel right anymore...(and yes i have taken it apart) but on the other hand the Spheros 8000 is older and still going strong, and as

far as casting goes... the Spheros hangs right there with the Emblem...

For me yes it was worth the money. I also Should say daiwa's service was excellent they had the reel for less time than it took to get there. If you think you need distance yes it's worth the money. Search the mass forum for "empro" the guys up there like it you see tons of them on the canal. As for doing your research i tried before i bought but trust me there is a difference between trying and throwing for 5 hours. That is my complaint that it is heavy for all day use. I think it's user error that made it break. For me it did what it was advertised to do. I am thinking and i stress thinking about the other reel because i think i will get comparable distance with a lighter reel but i hesitate to drop the cash when i only need distance a small amount of the time. The other thing i like was when you send a cast as far as you can some lures sink to the bottom too fast with the empro you can gain line faster and stay in contact with the lure. It really depends on what you need.
