Thoughts on Baitcasing Reels.... Looking to upgrade, in need of advice

I have been looking into buying a new baitcasting reel and can't seem to decide which would work best for me. I am looking to get a round reel for jigging lures up to 3oz and also looking for a low profile reel for casting both bucktails and top water lures... I only fish the bay. So far I came accross the abu garcia record 61 hc and for the low profile the abu garcia revo toro winch 61. I find a lot of mixed reviews on both items. Some can't live without them and others have had problems with both reels since day one. Maybe some of you guys can recommend some good reel(s) for me to buy. Thanks.

I own several Abu conventionals, including the Record 61.  It's a great reel as its built on the 6500 frame.  That's a good thing as there is tons of info on how to service these reels which makes them last.  The centrifigul brake on the Record works great.  It's my only conventional that I run braid and have never had a backlash when casting.  The level-wind is nice as it lays the line perfectly.  The "clicker" is a nice feature as well.  Things you may find you'll dislike about this reel:

1.  the thumb release for free spool.  I have accidentially depressed the thumb release (since it's located behind the spool) with a big fish on.  I have grown to prefer the "C3" model where the free spool button is located on the side plate.

2.  the flip up top cover (allows you to "palm" this reel).  I find that this thing gets in the way more then anything, especially when casting a heavy load.  If you are vertical jigging then it really is not a problem.  Casting often and you will find yourself flipping this thing up on every cast.

3.  The drag could be a little stronger.  It's an easy upgrade though.

Overall, I think the pluses out weigh the minuses.  You can't go wrong with an Abu IMO.  I would look at all the 6500 models.  I've never used the Toro winch but I do like the fact that it has the same line capacity as the 6500.  The other plus is that it is low profile.  I do use several other smaller low profile reels and prefer them when working something really slow as they are easier to palm.  You can palm them and have your index finger on the line much easier then the round conventionals in my opinion.

you could definitely use the avet sx, and could even get one with the magic cast for throwing lures/bucktails.   another reel to look at is a new model shimano is coming out with called the tranx, it looks amazing, check it out
