126andy
I bet at night if you used a red light like they use with night vision the gopro would work okay. Mount a mini mag light with a red lens right under the gopro My short-term memory is not as sharp as it used to be. Also, my short-term memory's not as sharp as it used to be. rubone47
Some do use red lights at night . Red lights dont ruin your night vision in your eyes but i dont think it will work for night video. The light i need has to be fairly bright. flylikabird
[img=http://www.stripersonline.com/image/id/2860608/width/225/height/300] I imagine that one would have to rig a light mast stationed high above the angler's head shooting down and have some lights rigged along the hull aimed into the water to light up the entire point of reference, at least that's my plan. I'm gonna rig all the lights to be turned on simultaneously during the intial hookup, flip of the switch and this should enable a decent shoot. I've included two shots of an OK Ultra 4.7 fitted with the Wildcat Lighting System, which utilizes the concept of my future rigging adventures. I understand that there's two trains of thought once you do this, one being that once the area is lit up, all escorts will screw and two being, they won't. I guess only time will tell. I hope it's the latter, but I fear it's not, and if this is the case, I'll just have to take the hobie elsewhere and return later on in the tide. If y'all got better ideas, I'd love to hear 'em. If not, that's my plan Stan. flylikabird
Hey Rubber That setup looks nice. Good Job! But instead of making us wait until you get on the water, could you do a test of lets say.....your dog eating out of his food dish under the darkest of conditions or better yet, have someone shoot you simulating a hookup in your yak fighting a big girl in the black? Also would you tell us a little more in detail about the light? Curious minds have got to know. Thanks in advance! flylikabird
Ruberone the jets are cool and you've confused my enthusiasm to solve a problem with drunk posting. Whatever dude, I was just messing around and it ain't no big thing. I'm just determined to not have another season roll up and have the same issues filming at night. flylikabird
That's great, thanks a lot. I'm really grateful you made that post the other day showing your new setup because it reminded me that I needed to get this off my ta do list for the approaching season. So today I was on task for another thing on that list, when I came across this cheap 24 led camping light (on sale 4 bucks christmas tree shop) in my cellar. A light literally went off my head to do some testing in my darken cellar with this setup. This is nothing permanent, but it was a decent test run. Might I add, several weeks back I had about a one hour conversation on the phone with one of the creators of the WILDCAT LIGHTING SYSTEMS, Don Abernarthy, regarding this project of mine. Don is a great guy and obviously super tech savy pertaining to his field of lighting. He's also keen to the ingenuity of digital camera's and how they record light. Without getting too technical because I could barely keep up with him, the key to this low light filming with digital camera's is the RGB elements that strike the light sensor, which then reads the strength of each color per pixel, and converts that information into digital data. That being said Don explained in order for this to work properly you need to "trick" the sensor when filming at night to record most of these bands. One way was to introduce some white into the conversation so to speak. So In my upload I wanted to try a few things, one of them consisting of the introduction of whiteness. Now how one approaches this in the blackest of new moon nights on a pitching ocean is gonna be another exercise in geekdome. THIS IS ONLY A TEST! DaveCap
The new Hero2 works a little better under low light, but even still, it'll never work as well daytime. If you do a flashlight mount, I would think you'd want one with a wider beam pattern as opposed to the more common narrow beams. Keep an eye out for the new wifi remote due out next month. It comes with a waterproof remote that also powers the camera on as well as controls it. Not may other cameras have the power on/off option which makes you waste battery power while in standby mode. If you have the Hero2, you can also live stream to an iphone or ipad and control up to something like 50 cameras.
flylikabird
I just took the dog out for his evening Pank (The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret reference) and tested this cheap lighting system out in the black, EPIC FAIL. This is why I'm in dire need to alleviate this cursed issue. There is another GP modified for low light conditions, it's the GoPro Hero 2 Modified Lens Camera (Infrared IR Capable), but it's almost 3x the cost of the originals. So I'm on a mission to try and do it on the down low.
