........Listening to them again 20, 30, 35 years later you say to yourself "What was I thinking?", and realize how really bad the music is..........:o

Was looking for WGBH radio downstairs just now, and in my search for the bandwidth I came across this........circa 1977-78 I saw this band at some small theater in Dover, NJ, and in fact, The Cars opened for them. At the time, both bands were mostly unknowns. The show was great, and we thought the song/album was "cool", but..............

Granted, it has some good, albeit simple riffs, but in reality, it IS really bad..........

That's a tough one.....while a pretty good song, I actually owned the album it was on, and when I became "awakened" at about 20 years old, I took the LP and smashed it on some railroad tracks in I guess what was a protest of Led Zep at the time...........looking back, am sorry I did that...........:o

I had a job with a couple of 30-40 YO carpenters when I was 14-15 doing framing. I used to play The ballad of Dwight Fry over and over until one of them threw my tape player off the roof saying ' There, I FINALLY got that guy the **** out of this place !!!!" :D :D :D

Respectfully disagree. The song is all about kids and parents, and the realization that they weren't always the squares they are now. I would think this would resonate strongly with you. No kids, but you are a square. :beers:

Surrender

Words and Music by Rick Nielsen

Mother told me, yes, she told me I'd meet girls like you.

She also told me, "Stay away, you'll never know what you'll catch."

Just the other day I heard a soldier falling off some Indonesian junk that's going round.

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.

Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.

Father says, "Your mother's right, she's really up on things."

"Before we married, Mommy served in the WACS in the Philippines."

Now, I had heard the WACS recruited old maids for the war.

But mommy isn't one of those, I've known her all these years.

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.

Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.

Whatever happened to all this season's losers of the year?

Ev'ry time I got to thinking, where'd they disappear?

When I woke up, Mom and Dad are rolling on the couch.

Rolling numbers, rock and rolling, got my Kiss records out.

Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright, they just seem a little weird.

Surrender, surrender, but don't give yourself away, ay, ay, ay.

Away.

Away.
