Springer
I need to turn down a butt cap using a drill. Anyone have a trick for getting one turning clean on a drill. I have tried building out a drill bit with masking tape to fit inside the cap but it always seems offcenter with tons of wobble and doesnt hold well. looney tunes
I use my rod building lathe to do that. I use a pc of scrap blank chucked into the headstock with the buttcap on the end. If you don't have a rod lathe you may be able to use a scrap pc of blank just like I do except you will have to glue in a pc of 1/4" threaded rod or something similar with bushings into the scrap. The truth is the light The light is the way The less folks know The more they have to say
HL
Please tell us more: Butt cap only - or whole fighting butt?? One piece rod - or multi piece? Butt material? Herb
Springer
Just getting back to this post. Thanks for your comments. I figured it out, just needed the bigest bolt possible that would fit in my drill. Hex head just fit onside the butt cap and was able to turn it mostly on center.
