sizing down

found myself this year sizing down my lures a bit, I now that big lures catch big fish but for me I would rather catch 10 fish between 30 and 40 inches instead of 2 fish over 40 inches, I went from 10 inch and up soft plastics to 7.5 inch soft baits and had a lot more fun, whats your take on sizing down?

Down sizing your lures doesn't nesessarily mean down sizing your catch. I have caught plenty of 40"+ fish on 4-6" soft plastics. I have seen large Stripers skimming the surface feeding on crab or krill hatches. When they are feeding on that stuff I usually can't even get them to eat a 3" offering. You may catch more smaller fish when you downsize but a big fish probably won't ignore your offering if it is hungry.

I use small sized lures often and find them very productive especially jigs. I do make sure the tackle is up to the task of catching large with "good" hooks.
