Has anyone tried building plugs with Deodar Cedar also known as Himalayan Cedar? I asked because a friend is getting ready to chop down a 45' Tree on his orchard.

Thank-you in advance and Merry Xmas to all.

Do you mean Aromatic Cedar.

Does it have a rich red color and also a white color?

I haven't seen it yet. The tree came down today. From what I've read online yes, it is very aromatic and popular to the chainsaw carvers due to its stability and its solid. Just wondering if it would make a good TW plug.

Some of the old masterlures {tthey were beat'n up) that I reconditioned were made from this type of cedar. Wood carves nice and finishes well. If it aromatic cedar many other other wood workers would be interested in getting it from you. From bowls, cabinets and other pieces it's use turns some very beautiful products.

If your thinking of using it, it will have to dry completely out. Do not saw it down keep the sections whole.

I think its a much superior wood than red cedar.
