Just heard on the news today that the Montville power plant has been sold and is slated to be

dismantled over the coming 18 months. If this is true what will come of our winter over striper

populations If they lose the warm water source why would they stay and if so they wont be

congregating around the warm water outflows for the the bait. Time will tell

If that is the only warm water source, I hope the stripers get the memo before the water gets too cold :)

If they historically winter over there going back to before the warm water source, they'll continue to do so. However, lacking the warm water, they'll definitely be less active and will certainly spread out better. If they only started wintering over because of the warm water, then they'll stop wintering over there in the near future :b:

This plant, which is a Co-Generation Facility, has been off-line and idle for awhile. They had filed for bankruptcy as a way to break free from the contract they had w/CL&P power to provide electricity, as the rates they had were negotiated before all fuel prices went crazy.

A source close told me that they had hoped to reorganize after the bankruptcy and be back on-line by the spring, but after the article in the local paper this does not appear to be the case.

As to the changes the lack of warmth will bring, first they have been off-line for awhile and second the fish have migrated upriver since long before that facility was built......the only thing this will change is the schoolies may no longer be clumped up on that section of the river allowing people to do more snagging than catching.

There is still the trash-burning facility which is also a co-generation facility just slightly upriver.

What Nuub said ;) BUT if you still want a warm water discharge to fish, try Bridgeport. Be sure to bring something capable of discharging at least a +P in .38 !
