Looking for a blank suggestion

Looking for some help and suggestion from some of you that can lend some expertise.

I am looking for something with a sweet spot somewhere around the 3-4.5 oz range.  Looking to get it built casting.  I already have a nice 10ft rod that will throw the smaller metal lures, but I want another rod that is going to throw some of the larger hopkins and maybe some light bait fishing.

I have a AS 1418 but I just dont see throwing 3 and 4 oz hopkins with it..so something else needs to be added.

also looking for it to be 10-11 ft/light and either 1 pc or like the st. croix 80/20 splits...so doing some research these I think are some of my choices.

LAMI Arra

XRA 1322

XRA 126 1 MH

St. Croix

Legend LSC106MHMF2

If any of you have any input to these I would appreciate it.  Also any suggestion on Build components or anything like that will be appreciated.  I plan on pairing this rod with either a ABU 6500/ABU 5000/ or an Akios 656...braid is a possibility as well.

thanks ahead of time.

The XRA 1205 would do well as would the XRA 126 1MH you list. There is a Century, maybe the 1326 (double check that blank number) that is also supposed to be very easy to cast in that weight range. I use an XRA 1205 for that type of application. Love the rod. Of course I built my own.

So with the 1205 being rated 1-4.....a 4 oz lure doesnt over load it??  that is what I am worried about with a 1-4 rated rod.  Granted...the difference between a 3 and 4 oz lure may not be that much to a fish.  I already have a CCP 1-4 built spinning...so I guess this next rod is going to fill a pretty small niche.

Thanks for you suggestions!!  Much appreciated!

I have fished the LSS106MHMF2 extensively over the last two years and it's much more versatile than i originally thought. I will give you the names of some others who have extensive experience with this rod to talk to that will verify my findings, just pm me if interested.

The rod can throw one ounce effectively and still really zip the larger stuff without much effort, it has tremendous power in reserve that only shows itself when called for , when i put 5oz on and a 6 inch finger mullet for example, it doesn't struggle in the least, and if the angler is physically capable of powering out a cast, the rod will do it without breaking a sweat. It's sweet spot is three and a half to four.

I prefer the 70/30 split because it feels and fishes as close to a one piece as you can get. The ferruling is superb and stays put, once it's put together you don't have to periodically adjust it like on some others, i can't tell you the last time i had to align the top with the reel seat on mine.

It is important to keep a very very thin coat of ferrule lube or beeswax on the male section, but don't let it bunch up or you can actually develop a crack in the female end if to much is applied. Again this is with the spinning version not the Casting, but i assume they are similar.

The above recommendations are also very good, and cheaper.

I have a couple 1418's so really its not needed......but I guess I was just thinking...that if I wanted It might double and use in close when 2-3-4 oz might hold....probably would not need to use it for that though.

XRA 1322 will definitely throw 3 - 4.5 but I wouldn't consider 4 oz its sweet spot - 2.5 to 3 maybe? It's also not a great choice for tossing bait IMO - it's really a heavy plugging stick. What about the GSB 132 1M? A bit stiffer in the tip & could probably throw bait in a pinch.

I have no qualms about throwing 4oz with my XRA 1205.

I throw 5oz with my stock 1205 quite a bit...4oz head and a Sluggo or Ronz. I'm no pro, but it doesn't seem overloaded in the least.

Like it more and more every time I fish it.
