Newt Vs. McCain

I'm not sold on Newt yet, thinking that Romney is a better general election candidate. That being said, I'll wager Newt would be a highly effective opponent for a president who is intelligent and glib but not much beyond that. One other thing about Gingrich, he's not going to be afraid to afraid to confront Obama. That’s been Gingrich's strong point from the earliest 'debates'. Recently, as the emphasis has shifted to inter party squabbling, Newt is a maintaining the focus on Obama.

McCain was a weak and ill prepared nominee. He seemed afraid to confront his Obama who was a strong candidate based on....nothing but his stump speech. Gingrich is not an attractive candidate; he is pugnacious and suffers from 'the smartest kid in the class' syndrome. He is not a guy who will be on many people's 'I'd like to have a beer with' list. In plain engish, he is an unlikeable prick.

I don't think that will matter. Gingrich, if he survives the crucible of debate ( a tip of the hat to RJ) would be the most effective debate opponent. That doesn't guarantee a win but it will present America with a clear choice; who will you vote for...the prick or the mannequin?

McCain? I'm still annoyed at his ill prepared and halfhearted campaign. I don't think Newt, or Romney for that matter, will have that problem.

Mick,

My problem with Gingrich is that some of the squishy middle who would "kind of" vote Rep. because of the nation's ongoing problems and leadership, will run to Obama after the media has trumpeted all of Newt's real and imagined faults.

Obviously Newt is a very formidable person with a very sharp mind. I think he would leave Obama in the dust in both intelligence and knowledge. But....his personal behavior, his obvious ego, his instability (his next great idea is the one he hasn't thought of yet.) give me pause personally and makes me worry about him turning off the middle.

Romney is like kissing your sister. Good person, good history, good family, honest as the day is long and a nice resume as far as things business/financial/managerial. The centerists will love him.

Course his problem is he will turn off the conservatives with many going third party or holding their noses while voting for him. I believe he would also destroy Obama in debates not because of brilliance but because he would appear to be the adult with the sensible solutions and Obama has already screwed the pooch with his docterinaire(?) socialism.

I love pre-scapegoating/victimization a year from an election. :D

The center is where this election will be decided. Conservatives who cannot understand that Romney came out of the most liberal state in the union, excluding the communist enclaves of NY and Vermont, and that this might have been a dynamic in his shifting positions seem a little clueless to me. You have to be elected to effect any change. Romney will run better than the pugnacious Newt. Period. Most conservatives will pull the lever for Romney. Not doing so is an principle based Obama vote by default. Look where that got us.

Vis-à-vis the broad swath of the electorate, Romney probably has a higher Q Factor than Newt.

Newt would be my last pick as far as the field of the replubicans running right now! I think that he carries the same old politcal BS and he would be no better than Obama. He is too smug and smug people are sneaky and can't be trusted :( Romney to me is a far better choice but as long as Cain is running he will be who I will nominate because i believe he can beat Obama ;)

Mick and Knight, The voting hasn't begun in the Primary states. Ibelieve Mit or Newt will end up as the choice. When that happens, all Americans ---

Republicans, Independentents, conservative democrats, Voters who voted for Obama and his Hope and Change S=BS who now understand what a disaster this inept and inexperienced mistake in the whitehouse is will RUN, NOT WALK to vote REPUBLICAN.

The Dem attack on whom ever is the Republican choice and his running mate will be frothing at the mouth to a level unseen before in American Politics.

The uglyness of the attacks will take care of the doubting Thmasa's and undecided. I'm predicting a last minute landslide even large than Reagan's over Carter.

The clown in DC is running 8 points below Carter a year out from the election. The noise today is 8.6% (BELOW (.0%) unemploynent. When it crashes after all the part time retail clerk hires for Xmas are sent home between Dec. 26 and Jan 5 the Unemploymmnet number will be back above 9.0% ...ad climbing.

If we get a heavy rain on November 6th, 2012 we could very wil see a landslide of 70% or more..

They can not run on his accomplisment, his jobs generation, his HUGE driving up the debt, is kowtowing to every tinpan dictator in the universe.

He is is toast.

There are fish being caught in NJ. the election is almost a year away - Take abreak spend some gas money and come on down to LNI.

What he said.

Although Newt is totally nuts and corrupt to the core. I can't believe anyone who is conservative could stomach him. I understand the bagger birthers like him cause he's mouthy.

Newt = Obama blow out win

I think so too as long as it,s Romney. A scumbag liberal lobbyist insider like that pile of dog Schmitz Newt wouldn't stand a chance. That is so obvious I can't believe it even needs to be stated.

Let's not forget that Newt's own party ran him out of Washington once.

Let's not forget that Obama is having trouble finding anyone in Congress or the Senate who does not suddenly have a 'full schedule' when he drops in for a fundraiser after a round of golf.

I have met John McCain, and think he is an honorable and decent man. he was the right presidential candidate in 2000 and would have been a universe better than the idiot who eventually won. McCain would have handled Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran in a totally different fashion, and I highly doubt that McCain would have ordered the invasion of Iraq. he recognized Iran as the true threat, albeit his "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" gaffe was a serious blunder. I watched McCain castigate a Republican fundraising crowd for the party's inaction on foreign oil dependence. When it came to 2008, the damage by bush 2 had been done and the country wanted a different candidate than a white male Republican. Aside from picking a moron as a VP candidate, there wasn't much McCain could have done differently to win the white house. We can thank bush one for character assassination in 2000 (calling McCain mentally imbalanced from his years as a POW), unaffordable tax cut, mis managing the war in Afghanistan, the list goes on and on. Perry is toast, Spermie Hermie Cain will bake himself today and Bachman is Fruit Loops. I could live with romney as President as at least he has a brain. I don't give a rat's backside about his religion.
