Frost King ice dam / gutte heating cables- worth it?

Last year, I experienced ice dams for the 1st time despite using a roof rake religiously. Too cold and too much snow built up inside my gutters.

This past weekend, I installed cables to run through the gutters, and deviated from their instructions which is to never allow the cable to rest on the aluminum gutter itself. Will the heat output really cause so much heat that it can smolder my roof edges & soffits?

I guess I can plug them into a rheostat dimmer, but wanted to see your experiences & thoughts. Thanks!
