The Republican Problem

Krugman hit the nail on the head.

“You have a Republican ideology, which Mitt Romney obviously doesn’t believe in. He just oozes insincerity, that’s just so obvious. But all of the others are fools and clowns. And there is a question here, my hypothesis is that maybe this is an ideology that only fools and clowns can believe in. And that’s the Republican problem...The Republican base does not want Romney and they keep on looking for an alternative. And Newt, although — somebody said, 'He’s a stupid man’s idea of what a smart person sounds like.”

Newt Gingrich reminds everyone of Newt Gingrich and nobody who remembers him likes him. And as people who never knew him get acquainted with him for the first time, they quickly will learn why nobody who remembers him likes him.

so he's being partisan,

tell us how he's wrong.

the republican ideology is one that logically brings us to where we are right now,

massive debt,

bad job market.

the planks will deliver short term benefits and long term destruction.

I agree it's a reason why GOP politicians talk about things emotionally rather than logically.

they will argue that it FEELS like the right thing to do.

even when it guts the nation.

I would love to hear a Republican Politician articulate the stance of "Free Markets" and China.

explain how doing nothing to protect American Manufacturing doesn't lead to where we are today.

Problem ? Why isn't anyone talking about the big part of the problem;

Grover Norquist - one man holds 238 Representatives and 41 Senators hostage.

238 reps and 41 senators afraid to do the right thing is more like it. Things change, Norquist is absolute in his philosophy.

Beholden to a lobbyist is the right thing in America now ?

Don't get me wrong, the Dems are as bad as the Republicans, I'm not taking sides, I just think we all should realize they're not for us,

they're for their corporate sponsors and we can vote all we want every couple of years and the problems won't disappear.

Same problems I've seen for 40 years, only 40 years worse. Is that working for America ?

Both sides had chances, both sides had total power and where are we ?

Surly one wouldn't suggest one party remain in power for ever ? That is a different form of governing.

So what's the answer ?

I cant believe im gonna say this but I agree with Krugman.

It seems to me the republican party members want a REAL conservative. Not yet another RINO. YEt what they get is RINO after RINO after RINO........maybe after (if) obama wins a second term the party will realize they need some real conservatives to run for president. It will be interesting to see once Romney is rammed down the throats of the party will people vote for him in November just because he is a a "rep" or will they get a real conservative to run 3rd party and sink the reps again? its happened before.

this thread is about the Republican Problem,

and my contention is that enacting the Planks of the GOP leads to breaking our Nation,

Relying on "Free Markets" in a "Global Economy" logically leads to manufacturing moving to a long series of developing nations with Governments seeking industry and people to exploit.

The US can't compete that way.

So we lose jobs,

loss of jobs means unemployment and lower tax revenues,

which lead to spending cuts and reduced aid at a time when MORE people need assistance.

our current economic woes were the forseeable outcome of what the GOP wanted.

they won't/can't explain how their system works,

so instead talk about it in emotional terms.

More Gov't spending & higher taxes. You've seen right here in PG, the 'progressive' royalty espouse their sheer, utter idiocy day in & day out. Socialism at its best. They desire to spend us into oblivion, until they destroy the dollar, and replace greenbacks with redbacks, comrade. :squid:

they are both for that......only difference is one is more willing to use credit to pay for the spending increases.

I do find our lefty friends interesting though, while the European system they touted for so long collapses and socialist govts are swept from power one after another they still think socialism is the path to prosperity. Notice the leifties have backed off saying we need to be more like europe?

I don't agree with the more Gov't Spending,

but I do believe that 30 years of tax cuts while the debt was ballooning was foolhearty.

And don't forget that both sides were running up the debt, not just the repubs.
