Working the Snare

What's the best method for working the snare in the surf? Should you set the snare right when you feel them climbing on the cage or should you wait a awhile? And when you set the snare is it quick jerk or sweeping motion?

The way I do it is cast it out and let it sit for 10-15 mins. Pick up the rod, slowly pull back and if you feel weight then set it hard and reel like mad until you get it in, don't pump the rod just steady reel, no slack or they get off. Works good to back up and reel when it gets to the wash because that's usually when your line slacks and the crab gets off.

I do it the same way Mike does. When you feel weight on the snare, crank like hell. Don't let up, don't give it any slack. I hate cranking them all the way in just to loose them in the wash.
