Gill Foul Weather Gear

Rate this topic

I was looking to purchase some good quality foul weather gear for this upcoming winter season and a good fishing buddy of mine is recommending Gill. I looked at the OS2 line at my local tackle shop and it feels like good quality stuff. I know a lot of you guys like the Grunden Hercules so I'm curious about that too. I sweat a LOT and my concern is that I'd be drenched after fishing a full day on PVC. The OS2 line supposed to breath better. Should I be concerned over this? Also, the Gill is much more expensive. Is it worth it for 1-3 month headboat and charter fishing?

Thanks in advance!

I just replaced a pair of Grundens CoFish bibs that were about 20 years old..and they get alot of use.

I just replaced them with Hercules bibs.

They get funky and I turn them inside out and wash them on gentle cold in the washer....

Tried and true...great stuff...

I'm 5'10 & 280

I think the 2x will be tight on you. You have to rember that you will have a few layers on under & you want to be able to move.

I use the 3x. They are long, I just turn up the cuffs & glue them in place,

Gill makes nice stuff for sailboats, Grundens for fishing. I would not worry about the "breathability" of the material. You are are standing on the deck of a boat in the freezing cold you are not mountain climbing. Blocking the wind coming in is much more important than letting the sweat get out unless you sweat standing still in the freezing cold.

I ended up with the Grundens Herkules 16 bibs and I'm glad i did. Cleaning them was nothing. I hosed them off on he boat (while I was still in them) and threw them in the washer when I got home. Easy as pie.

Unless you are shooting a porn version of the Deadliest Catch, you should never need to put Grundens in the washer. The inside is on the outside of your clothes.... how dirty can the inside get?
