High Point Hits Lake Ontario

8 posts in this topic

The thrird annual High Point Regional High School trip to fish the Salmon and Oswego Rivers was this weekend. We had an excellent time.

Left Thursday at 3pm from school. All kids had to maintain a min. 75 avergae, miss no more than 2 days of school, and hae no major discipline issues. We choose 7 kids who met this criteria and hit the road in my Explorer and 1993 Man-Van Vandura.

We stayed in a cabin at Fair Haven State Park again. Thursday night we settled in, ate pulled pork I made ahead, and I taught them how to tie egg sacs and flouro leaders. [img=

Breakfast started at 4am.

We fished the first few hours and the first few holes with nothing much happening. A few swings and misses and a lot of sleepy yawning. Two of the kids came the year before though, so they knew that anything could happen at any time. They were all pretty content to cast and drift sacs together. http://www.stripersonline.com/image/id/2470140/width/600/height/155]

After a few hours we headed over the Oswego. Damned good things happened there for my kids!

We hit both rivers again the second day, but all our fish came from Oz.

I have some more shots at work that I'll post tomorrow, including one of the best fish landed.

Pass.....absolutely outstanding. I wish more schools would do this. If it's not too personal are you a teacher, affiliated with the school, or just an engaged citizen ? :th::th::th:

Teacher. This is our school fishing club. Three other teachers came along.

Much of our gear came through SOL. Thank you to everyone who donated or sold us rods/reels/etc. to help us get started.

Nicest fish of the trip. Ten minute fight, almost lost at the net three times. One happy kid![img=

This guy dropped a Brownie that probably went about 10 pounds. He wouldn't stop talking about it, so he got picked to grace the Man Van with a new bumper sticker. "Fish On" was already there. :D

I grew up in a redneck town and we had no fishing club! I'm jelious.

Anyway thats awesome. Being outdoors man kept me out of trouble when I was growing up. I can just imagine what kind of a hole I would have been without it. It's a great thing your doing, keep it up. It might be model for inner city school kids. At least the ones with the hunter fisher gene would have a chance.
