Bido:

I try to explain:

Most of the time the pictures are take after a whole day of fishing or hours.

We need to change a bad habit with the photos and to take them with fresh fish.

Luke:

In this case my friend not changed the hooks.

The fight was very strong and took several minutes to tire the fish.

But generally we change two things: the split rings (steel) and strong hooks for saltwater purposes.

Mustad hooks are very good choice.

We do not know what kind of goliath fish will appear smile.gif

It is better to be prepared for the big fish.

GMA - What were the conditions when this permit was caught, and what technique was used?

i.e. water depth, current speed, lure presentation, distance from shore.

Thanks, Wayne.

Wayne:

Water deep: 3 meters at least

Current Speed: medium to slow

Lure presentation: casting from shore, inside the river channel. Move the lure slowly along the current.

Distance from river mouth: 25 meters

Line: 12 lbs mono Silver Thread

Rod: 6´6" Graphite medium action (Our choice in Costa Rica)

Reel : Abu Garcia 6500 C3 (I think that it is better to use spinning reels for this specific type of lures).

Leader : 40 lbs mono (You can use braided line as leader this is better for the action of the lure).

Triet:

No. The lure didn't take off the mouth of the fish.

My friend take off the hooks when he cooked the fish he he he. Imagine to eat up a fish with the hooks, ohhh noooooo...

The flesh are good, excellent flavor. Maybe the eyes seems opaque but the flesh was in good condition.

Nice Fish! I have caught many freshwater species on the Rebel Crawfish (LM bass, SM bass, trout, walleye, crappie, catfish, and carp). If you bounce that thing off the rocks with a fast retrieve, anything will eat it!

What was your friend trying to imitate with a freshwater crayfish lure for North America?

Was he trying to catch a Permit or just whatever he could catch?
