Pro Angler questions

Hobie is very strict about the advertised price. You might be able to pick up a 2010 leftover and get a break because of the new steering sytem now on the 2011.

View PostLooks like I found the right guys to talk to (with cool wives too). I looked online and found a few different trailers - Hobie, Malone and Yakima. Do you mind if I ask which one you guys use? (I'm sure they're all pretty good).

Stargoat, does the PA have a place to stow the Standard Cart?

I use a Load Rite trailer for a small boat. Cost around $700. The PA slides up the bunks with ease. But I am going to retrofit the trailer this year so I can carry the wives Outback and my PA side by side.

As far as my cart goes, I have the standard Hobie scupper cart. To stow it I simply turn it upside down and stick the uprights upside down in the scupper holes behind the seat. With the large deck area there is still plenty of room for your gear, milk crate, ice chest, or whatever.

Stargoat,

The Hobie trailer that holds 2 kayaks goes for around $1,500 (made by Trailex). I'd be interested to know how much your retrofit costs - looks like I can save some money if I go that route.

I have not really priced everything out but just a SWAG (Scientific wild a$$ guess) with the new bars and saddles it will cost about around $600 more to retrofit. I have seen utility trailers used for kayak transport. At the big box stores I have seen utility trailer go for around $500. The just build on top to suit your needs. The space below can be used for storage. I will probably not retrofit for a couple of months. The trailer is buried in about 3FT of snow right now with more expected tonight. This poor old displaced Texan really loves New Hampshire. kooky.gif

I see some of you have Pro anglers and a second hobie as the outback or revo. question-i'm very interested in the PA but the weight is my concern and i really don't want to deal with boat ramps. but i go through rough waters and choppy surf sometimes and i also cover a lot of ground,how the PA will be an advantage over the revo or outback? i sold my outback and i'm ready to get the next hobie,but i need a little bit more speed and to move to point a to point b like chasing blues etc.. and i've seen some people here suggesting to add the turbo fins.i'll might end up with the revo but i see more and more demand on these ProAnglers.

your take?

The only con I can say for th pro A is weight and speed, th turbo fins comes with it,Other than that it's nice to have all that room and th ability to stand also no problem in rough waters u can go far just not as fast.

I agree with denw72 and thaistick. The Pa is not built for speed and it is heavy. But like me it is built for comfort. I am 6'2" and there is plenty of room to move around and take a nap plus with a capacity of 600 LBS that's a lot of manly drinks on ice! beers.gif

I'm getting 5 mph out of mine without too much effort ......... leisurely 3.5 - 4 ......... not sure what you guys need but the few times I've been out I've at least kept up with others but never tried to race .......

You don't really sprint in the Hobies anyway....might as well be comfortable! Many of my friends Hobies range from Pro Anglers to Outbacks to Revos.....we all hang together no problem and believe me when I tell you the PA can move if you want it to! If weight is really the issue (which needs to be considered as I had alot to sort out transport wise when I bought my PA) then maybe the Revo or Outback might be a better choice? I weigh 300 pounds am 6'5" and like to be comfortable.....the PA is just what the Doctor ordered! Oh....and the seat might as well be a LazyBoy!!! I can sit in it for hours!wink.gif

I don't remember where i found it,..but a while back, somewhere I saw the relative speeds of the Hobie yaks rated for similar levels of effort while pedaling them. It was something on the order of:

Pro Angler = low 3's mph.

Outback = mid 3's mph

Revo = mid 4's mph

Adventure = around 5 mph

In a sprint,..I think you can make all of them go decently fast for a short distance,..but where you really feel the differences in speed is when you have to cover a few miles against wind and current! I suggest that you find somewhere to demo them before you buy anything and then you can see and judge for yourself!

(Also FWIW,..I remember seeing a used PA for sale last fall for $2000 including a trailer!)

Just checked out the PA in person (I've seen all of the videos and pictures) and I wasn't disappointed. One step closer to pulling the trigger which I should do soon so I can assure that I can get one with the April shipment at my dealer. Maybe I'll sleep on it for one more day. Since I have the Outback, I already know about Mirage and the ride so there's no mystery about what I'm getting and I think my center console will sell pretty quickly (2002 Maritime w/ a 75HP Honda) in the spring when I uncover it then there's no mystery about the $$$. Thinking about the yellow one but I sure like those other colors too.
