Pro Angler questions

37 posts in this topic

I'm gonna take a look at the Pro Angler soon - I have the Outback now which my wife will use if I get the PA. Two questions - will the plug in wheels I have for the Outback fit in the PA? Has anybody used the following gizmo to transport the PA? It works great for the Outback on my Tacoma.

I have a PA as well my wife has an Outback! The PA is an entirely different animal, weight wise, than the Outback! It is extremely heavy and awkward! In regards to the plug in wheels I do not own any for the PA but I would guess they will need to be quite heavy duty to carry it! Check weight capacities from the manufacturer. As far as transporting my PA I had issues with the rack on my truck as the PA was just so heavy for me to get up on the Yakima rack on my truck so I wound up purchasing a kayak trailer to carry it and I am happier with it. You will love the PA...it is an amazing fishing machine!wink.gif

I too have an PA and my wife has an Outback. Do not use the plug in cart (TRAX II) with the inflatable tires for the PA. They may be good for sand but are terrible anywhere else. I use the standard Hobie Standard Kayak cart for my PA, works great. I would like bigger tires but they would rub against the hull. You will love the PA but I agree for transport a trailer is the only way to go. Good luck and tight lines! highfive.gif

Looks like I found the right guys to talk to (with cool wives too). I looked online and found a few different trailers - Hobie, Malone and Yakima. Do you mind if I ask which one you guys use? (I'm sure they're all pretty good).

Stargoat, does the PA have a place to stow the Standard Cart?

As everyone has said ......... you will TOTALLY love the PA but it is heavy. I'm almost 60 and WAY out of shape.

I have an SUV and I only put it on the roof 1 time when I realized I needed something else.

I bought an F150 PU truck and I got that hitch extender you show above. It is ALL you need. Very easy to load and unload yourself and it looks great going down the road ........ you don't need a trailer if you have the hitch extender ........

A few pics! My PA is carried upside down so as not to dimple the hull! Originally it was carried right side up in the cradles but it was affecting the hull so....upside down is better for me!

Thanks - this is all great info. One last question (until the next one) - if I land up with the PA and keep the Outback I'll need to store one or both outside. Has anyone stored their kayak outside all winter? I would like to keep them upside down on a trailer (if I get one) with a tarp covering them up in a boatyard in Maine (maybe shrinkwrapped instead).

You will be fine. I have some kayaks that have been stored outside for 20 years now and they are fine. Snow load can do some damage however so make sure the tarp sheds snow.

Thanks all for your input. I'm getting closer to making the move. I've never regretted the Outback purchase and I expect to feel the same way when I buy the PA. It's nice when you find a quality company that makes quality products.

Don't know about that as I had 3+ feet of snow resting on mine last winter for most of the winter and had no issues. I store wrapped in tarp resting upside down on two 6x6's.

View Postwhat are you guys paying for your PA's.

i have been seeing them going for about 2.5Kicon25.gif

no luck on finding any used ones.

anyone got a secrete shopping place for yaks?

Haven't seen any used ones either and $2500 seems to be the price that retailers are asking for pretty consistently. And that's before all of the cool extras and the trailer. I'll probably buy the PA (and the cool extras and the trailer) before I sell my boat which is where the money is coming from - somebody stop me!!
