replacement sash problem surfaces

i started a thread in here about blue great stuff

thanks for your responses- i drilled more holes than i would have, and am glad i did

right side was no problemo- but the wood on the jamb- southern yellow pine, was actually quite porous

not only did the extra foam come out of the holes i drilled and the seam where the blind stop and jamb meet, it actually came right through the wood over much of the surface

i thought SYP was pretty dense!

anyway, while drilling holes on the other jamb, i found a crack that runs bottom to top about 3/4s of the way up the damn thing

the crack happens to be in the dado that the parting bead sits in

here's my plan:

drill a hole at the top of the crack to relieve the stress there

gently tap some wedges into the crack

butter it up generously with carpenters glue

screw some blocks onto the jamb face and clamp the thing overnight

remove the blocks and scrape off any excess glue

rip a piece of parting bead so it is a hair smaller than the dado is deep

slobber the dado and the parting bead with glue and install the thing

tack it in place with my brad gun

that should hold it just fine

thank goodness for a glue that actually works as advertized
