Frustrated by ice

10 posts in this topic

I got a new Pflueger President XT for christmas, and with some Cabelas cards got a new St. Croix rod. I've been dying to go out and use my new combo, so I decided I'd go to the big D today. Got to a spot off 80 and as soon as I pulled up all I saw was solid water frown.gif I was bummed because the entire drive the river looked like it was flowing nicely. I tried to find another place to park and fish, but had no luck. Anyone else frustrated by the ice?

I drove the big D today from Dingmans all the way up to Lackawaxen. Very little open water, none was nearshore. I wasnt fishing though just looking for Bald Eagles. Saw 17 eagles, including 5 nests. One pair was maybe on eggs already.

Yep, this winter we're having ice problems even in Dixie. It wouldn't be so bad if the ice was thick enough to safely walk on. I've never iced fished. And these photos were made after much of the ice and snow had melted.

Wow, that's nuts. I've only been through your state once and it was in summer. Looked beautiful then, so I'm sure it still looks beautiful with snow. At least you've got that

Those two pictures I posted last time were taken yesterday (Saturday) afternoon. This one was taken Wednesday. This is a small lake out back from where my wife works, matter of fact it was taken from inside the building looking out the hallway window. Lots more snow and ice as you can see. Believe it or not, some of the states to our south such as Georgia and Alabama got more snow than us.

View Postget an auger. wink.gif of course, that won't help you much with casting your new setup.

Yeah i've been tempted to try ice fishing for the first time. I've just never been home for winter fishing before and would love to catch fish in the tougher conditions. I'd especially enjoy getting my first walleye
