Nessmuk
ask away OK. Did you mean to imply that Palin's map in any way was meant to advocate violent action should be considered on the areas marked by the bulls-eye? Or that such a map could have possibly led a sane person to commit violence.
eddy
ask away Back in 2008, a prominent liberal progressive Democrat, Markos Moulitsas, the Daily Kos owner said..... Who to primary? Well, I'd argue that we can narrow the target list by looking at those Democrats who sold out the Constitution last week. I've bolded members of the Blue Dogs for added emphasis.and Not all of these people will get or even deserve primaries, but this vote certainly puts a bulls eye on their district. If we can field enough serious challengers, and if we repeat the Donna Edwards and Joe Lieberman stories a few more times, well then, our elected officials might have no choice but to be more responsive. Because if we show them that their AT&T lobbyist buddies can't save their jobs, they'll pay more attention to those who can.Giffords is on that list. Do you believe Mr. Moulitsas is just as guilty in the shotting of Rep. Giffords as Sarah Palin is? dogboy
OK. Did you mean to imply that Palin's map in any way was meant to advocate violent action should be considered on the areas marked by the bulls-eye? Or that such a map could have possibly led a sane person to commit violence. i think it was irresponsible from the get-go a "sane" person,by definition, would not start shooting at people whose political views he disagreed with unless coerced or threatened, so my short answer is no but surely no disinterested observer would deny that: lists of political foes coupled with graphic images identical to the cross-hairs of a rifle scope and instructions to "take aim" would eventually result in somebody committing mayhem which is exactly what ended up happening even the sheriff in the area where the shootings took place thought so i don't know if the shooter ever visited palin's website but it is one thing to claim that shooting was not the intended result it is entirely another thing to claim that the images and rhetoric on the website in question would never cause somebody to pick up a gun and start shooting i am a firm believer in the first amendment- freedom of speech is a right we all enjoy but yelling "fire" in a crowded theater is NOT protected speech neither is fomenting anarchy at a minimum, the web page in question was irresponsible perhaps to a good lawyer, it could be plausibly presented to a jury as abetting first degree murder stranger things than that have happened in a courtroom
Nessmuk
it is entirely another thing to claim that the images and rhetoric on the website in question would never cause somebody to pick up a gun and start shooting i am a firm believer in the first amendment- freedom of speech is a right we all enjoy but yelling "fire" in a crowded theater is NOT protected speech Seeing a box of Cheerios could cause a nut to start shooting. I think you really need to evaluate how easily the idea of limiting the freedom of people comes to you. Using the most common sign in the world that indicates a "target" of some kind is hardly yelling "fire." How about we all just calm down and come to our senses. Gotcow?
so it's Obama's fault that the radical right uses violent rhetoric? really? We don't see President Obama stepping in to attempt quell the rhetoric that spews from either side. Why not? Then again how many times has President Obama spoken to the country about anything. I think this turmoil is exactly what Obama wants as it keeps the focus off him and his administrations failures. A real leader would be looking for ways to bring the country together not further divide it.

NS Mike D
I'm just disgusted Dogboy sunk to this level and actually used the deaths of innocent people to take a stab at Sarah Palin. It's pathetic. AT BEST. Classless. firstly. I tried to make it clear that the nut case is a nut case I do think it's worthy of discussion. Palin jumped on the bandwagon of the over the top violence rhetoric, and she scoffed at the questions and dismissed the discussion. This isn't a head coach talking to his team, this is one of the most recognizable figures using mass media to send her message to as many people she can reach. Is it too much to ask her (and all politicians) to tone down the hate an violence rhetoric, and to at least recognize there are nut jobs out there. BTW, I am sure she does now, since she took down her site. "... let it go - lets move forward."
