Rate this topic

Just picked up a Newell 220 is there any way to quiet that thing down. It sounds like a pin wheel even with the clicker off.

Or am I just used to my Calcutta and my grandfathers surfmasters?

What Snaps said. If you don't need it to cast for distance pack the bearings with a good marine wheel bearing grease. It will slow it down some and quiet it up quite a bit. Grease the main and pinion gear with the same stuff. Doing this will also help keep everything free of corosion. While its opened change out the drag washers with carbon tex and grease them with cals.

Alan Tani has a great step by step tutorial w/ pictures opening up newell reel and greasing the carbontex drags.

Mick I THINK the bearings are sealed, greasing them would require removing the seals which is a PIA so the easiest way is to oil 'em unless ya gonna dunk it then remove the shields and grease emwink.gif
