OOPS !

This brand spanking new Airbus 340-600, the largest passenger airplane ever built, sits just outside its hangar in Toulouse ,France without a single hour of airtime.

Enter the Arab flight crew of *Abu Dhabi *Aircraft Technologies (ADAT) to conduct pre-delivery tests on the ground, such as engine run-ups, prior to delivery to Etihad Airways in *Abu Dhabi *.

The ADAT crew taxied the A340-600 to the run-up area..

Then they took all four engines to takeoff power with a virtually empty aircraft. Not having read the run-up manuals, they had no clue just how light an empty A340-600 really *is.

The takeoff warning horn was blaring away in the *cockpit because they had All 4 engines at full power. The aircraft computers *thought they were trying to take off, but it had not been configured properly (flaps/slats, etc.)

Then one of the ADAT crew decided to pull the circuit breaker on the Ground Proximity Sensor to silence the alarm. This fools the aircraft into thinking it is in the air. The computers automatically released all the *brakes and set the aircraft rocketing *forward.

The ADAT crew had no idea that this is a *safety feature so that pilots can't land with the brakes on.

Not one member of the seven-man Arab crew was smart enough to throttle back the engines from their max power setting, so the $200 million brand-new aircraft crashed into a blast barrier, totaling it.

The extent of injuries to the crew is unknown due to the news blackout in the major media in *France *and elsewhere. *Because........

525

Coverage of the story was deemed insulting to Muslim Arabs. * *

Finally, the photos are starting to leak out.

One French Airbus: * $200 million dollars
Untrained Arab Flight Crew: *$300,000 Yearly Salary
Unread Operating Manual: *$300
Aircraft meets retaining wall and the wall wins.
PRICELESS!!!

"And that's why God gave them camels"!

God also put an ocean of oil under their asses, so $200 million to them is like us eating the deductible after we drive our new car into a tree cwm27.gif

Part of the news black-out might also be due to the French not wanting everyone to know how easily a bunch of idiots can override every safety device built into a product built by a government subsidized aircraft manufacturer wink.gif

You can have quadruple redundancy on every critical thing, and morons will always figure out a way to crash an airplane.

One of the classics is the Eastern L-1011 that flew into the Everglades, in almost level flight. A warning light went out, and while the co-pilot was bending over trying to re-set it, his knee disengaged the autopilot. Plane went into a slow, gradual descent. Three man cockpit, and no one ever bothered to look at the altimeter until the ground proximity warning horn went off. shakehead.gif

The 1011 was the most sophisticated airliner in the sky at the time, too.

They salvaged a lot of parts from the wreck, and legend has it that the ghost of the flight engineer haunted every 1011 that had salvaged parts in it until the planes went out of service, warning other pilots when they were screwing up.

Just an FYI the A340 is not the largest passenger airplane built. That honor goes to the A380.

By the looks of the flight deck I'd be surprised if any one up there survived.

Got to be more to this than just a stupid air crew.

I didn't catch that the first time I read it, and you are quite correct on both counts. The A-380 is the biggest, and the crashed Etihad plane is an A-340.

The interior cabin shots look like they are from an A-380, though--note the staircase to the upper deck area--the A-380 is a double decker.

The 340 has been around long enough for those fools to have figured out the systems.
