cuaght something that looked like that in central jerz on an august night a few years back, about 14 inches long, now i think i know what it is, it took a chunk or clam...

On second look, the blunt posterior rear fins and the white tipped tail are definite banded rudderfish features.

 

The juveniles I've always caught and spotted in the water have more striking black and white markings.

 

I was wrong, and it ain't the first time redface.gif

 

So then, I change my answer to white perch.

my first guess was banded rudderfish. Right after i took the pic and released the fish a state trooper and fish and game stopped us. I showed fish and game and he said blue runner.
