Dishwasher part help

I have a 17 year old Kitchen Aid dishwasher that's in impecable condition. However, a $12 part fell off the other night, and melted on the drying element ring. Now it's working at ~ 50% capacity.

Here's the kicker, the part is no longer being made. frown.gif Kitchen Aid doesn't have it. I've check several other online sites, and no dice either.

Any thoughts? I'd hate to replace a dishwasher just b/c a crummy $12 part broke. Are non Kitchen Aid parts available?

The part # is: PS356313

You can try APED in CA. Supposedly one of the largest selections of obscure parts in the country. No online shopping though. You need to call em' at (800) 675-2733 - have that part number as well as the model number handy when you call.

That $12 might become a $40 part though.

Many units are clones, Was thinking , maybe you can adapt the part from another dishwasher and make it work ?
