live lining for pike

3 posts in this topic

I am taking a break from the salty stuff to try to pick a fight with the toothy critters in the freshwater.

I usually catch pike as a bi-catch when hunting for bass but I have found a river outlet onto lake champlain that tends to pump out pike. so in the hopes of catching a monster, I plan on live lining some baitfish (suckers or big minnows if I can find a store selling them) but more likely some small perch.

anyone have a suggestion on how to rig the perch? Ive got tons of octopus, circle and bait holders to rig with. where should I hook it and with what?

I have never live lined fish before, should be interesting.

i would also say just go out and catch your own. not sure if you have creek chubs in your area or larger daces in your area but they make great pike bait. through the nose, as cruel as it is, with a 6/0 hook works great, depending on the size of pike in your area
