ss1600 on a yak?

I use a Daiwa SS1600 on a 7ft spinning rod and love it, but am thinking of hiring a Kayak to give that a whirl. Never dunked my SS and always give it a good rinse as soon as I get home, but am nervous of taking it in a yak in case it gets drowned. Anyone have any views on how it might hold up? Other than a $600+ reel, what do people use on Yaks, or do you just buy a lot of cheaper reels and fish them until they dissolve?

I use my SS1600 on my yak. The nice thing about it is that although it's not as smooth as a reel with a lot of bearings, the 3 in it are good quality and easily serviceable, so it works well. About the only reels I can think of that can sustain a serious dunking in saltwater is a VS or a ZB (asides from a handline reel or a drink can redface.gif ). I would throughly coat the internal parts with good marine grease before heading out, though.
