Party Boat Skunking

mad.gif I've been skunked on offshore charters, beaches, bays and rivers. I have never been on a party boat with 30 or so other people for five hours and have the whole boat skunked. Saw only one fish caught the whole night and it wasn't even our target fish. Crew said nothing Captain say's nothing. No "sorry guys" or "here's a coupon for the next trip" nothing! This was a very popular boat out of Point Pleasant with a good rep. The price was $10 more than their website without an explanation. So much for customer service.beatin.gif

A few years ago I was vacationing Kure Beach, NC with my bro and had him all excited to go on a charter boat...his first time = TERRIBLE outcome. Best charters that I took multiple times with excellent success was out of Mayport, Fl. when I was in the Navy during the early eighties. Eight hours for twenty bucks with my military discount and the stringers always cut my fingers carrying them out of the boat. smile.gif

Went on a party boat for my birthday with my girlfriend way back.

Striper fishing....

With 8# mono and no leader. cwm13.gif

Mate caught a cocktail.

Only fish on the boat.

Party striper boats usually suck anyway.

Did the Captain move numerous times? Or did you just stay put? What was the target?

This happened to me many, many years ago on a boat outa Sheephead Bay. I never went back on that boat again. smile.gif

Well, with 8# mono I don't think a leader would be of much help anyway...

Unless you had 1000 yards of that mono. beers.gifwink.gif

It is called fishing, not catching...

Sounds like you were night bluefishing. If so its about time for them to be spawning, and if so the fishing usually is in the crapper until they are done.

Night time blues and the we moved twice. Knew about the spawning but hoped for the best. If the Captain knows the situation, plan B should be an option.

Very true. seems like you went for a boat ride unless there is no plan B to fall back on

I made a 1/2 day trip last year on a boat from Cape May. 25+ people and only 1 Striper was caught. There was another guy who caught a Sea Robin. I didn't even have a nibble all day. Everybody was pissed.

The captain was so excited he got on the radio to tell everybody he was catching fish. He acted like he was on top of a blitz. When we finally returned to the dock he started bragging to anyone there about the big Striper the boat caught. headscratch.gif

The last time that I was on a party boat we were skunked...The crew had the balls to come around with a tip jar after. I gave the mate a buck and told him that was the last one that he'd ever see from me. And it was.

Just because you got skunked doesn't mean the mates didn't work hard. I'm sure they had to handle tangles, cut bait, and deal with rude customers...

You knew the blues were spawning. You knew that it would probably suck. And you still *****. Nice.

first of all did you knew what to expect? if so why the moaning and biatching? you should have chosen your plan B.

Did you ask why the fare was $10 more than what the website said. if you didn't ask then please refer to the moaning and biatching part.

I guess we're not as hardcore as you. Just a shot in the dark but, I'm pretty sure all the fish in the ocean weren't screwing on friday.highfive.gifAlso I'm not bitching as much as I'm venting. Customer service is my biggest complaint.
